Thief Hall Wedding Photography - Sophie and Leif

Thief Hall was definitely a venue that was on our dream list. We had been counting down the days to Sophie and Leif’s wedding and thanks to the dreaded Covid we had to wait a bit longer than we expected too. Thief Hall is an exclusive and unique barn wedding venue based in North Yorkshire that is almost a perfect blank canvas for you to style however you fancy and Sophie and Leif were able to put their amazing personal style into all the aspects of their wedding day.

Sophie and Leif are our first wedding who wanted to do a first look. We love a first look because it means we know exactly when and how you guys are going to actually see each other and we are able to perfectly capture your reactions without worrying about missing anything from the back of the room. They both got ready at different places in Thief Hall and we drove Leif out to some woods that are also owned by the Hall to meet up with Sophie and arrange the first look.

We also did a little, private vow ceremony out in the woods. Since both of them were feeling anxious about the wedding, it was a perfect opportunity for Sophie and Leif to share their special moment privately before they went in front of their family and friends later in the day during their legal ceremony. We had time for a quick, private photoshoot too and we even had enough time to meet a beautiful pony in the field nearby. Sophie didn’t think she liked horses but even she managed to stroke this lovely pony.

Sophie and Leif had brought their amazing rescued rottweiler called Hagrid and she was absolutely adorable. Thief Hall is the perfect wedding venue to have your dog join you for the celebrations because there’s so much space for them to run around in. Hagrid was perfectly well behaved all day and we couldn’t resist calling her out a few times for photographs. They also had some beautiful details spread around their wedding that spoke about their relationship and the life they are building together. Thief Hall is a great place that allows you the space to stamp your own identity on your wedding day and make things just how you want them to be.

After the ceremony, we shot the confetti on the lovely terrace outside the ceremony room. As you probably know, we love confetti and Sophie and Leif definitely took to heart our advice with confetti. We always suggest going for big confetti with bright colours so that they show up well in photos and, as always with confetti, more is more! Get as much confetti into the air as possible, give all your guests two hands completely full of confetti, they can put their drinks down for a few minutes.

We snuck off for a quick photo session with just the couple after that, we promised to be on our best behaviour and have them back on time though! We weren’t gone very long at all in the end because Leif had recently dislocated his knee so he was struggling to get around too much. We managed to get a few nice, creative shots still though. We captured the speeches and then got out of their way while they and their guests had their food.

Thief Hall has some really amazing views that make it a dream to shoot for wedding photography. We headed back outside to make use of the views and the beautiful sunset. We also got an amazing reflection photograph of Sophie and Leif under the arch of horseshoes that might be one of our favourite photos of the day. We headed in for the cake cut and they had decided that they wanted to cut their cake with a sword - as you do! We love being weird and wonderful though, and there’s not much more weird or more wonderful than cutting your wedding cake with a bloody great big sword!

We captured Sophie and Leif’s first dance and a bit of the party and then left them to party the rest of the night away without worrying about us two skulking around with cameras waiting to pounce! We had an amazing day shooting wedding photography at Thief Hall.
