SNEATON CASTLE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY - SOPHIE AND MIKEY

A bride and groom look into each others eyes under the brances of a tree filled with dark red foliage at Sneaton Castle, Whitby.

Sophie and Mikey got married at one of our favourite venues, Sneaton Castle. We’ve waxed lyrical in the past about Sneaton Castle and it’s still one of our absolute favourite places. Everytime we come we find new and exciting corners of the place to explore and be creative in. There’s nothing like revisiting old favourites and seeing them with fresh eyes each time!

Sophie’s family is from the area but Mikey’s lot had travelled up for the wedding. It was great overhearing all the guests chatting about how beautiful the place is and how good the fish and chips in Whitby were. The weather was absolutely outstanding too, very sunny and warm. We don’t mind bright sunshine but it does make our lives a little more complicated for photos. Thankfully, we’ve dealt with it before and we’ve got a few tricks and ideas for dealing with the bright sunshine and the stark shadows.

The ceremony was beautiful and Sneaton Castle provided its usual impressive backdrop for Sophie and Mikey. We’ve been thinking recently about how important venue choice is to your wedding and the photos that you’re going to get. If you want amazing photos with ridiculous arches or beautiful trees then you need to choose a venue with those things. Photoshop is great but it can only do so much after all. This might be a full blog post now we think about it…

There were a few cool details of the day that we think it’s worth mentioning. Sophie wore an Evenstar necklace which, obviously, we noticed straight away. We had a Lord of the Rings theme to our own wedding after all. Sophie’s mum and aunt at Willow Cake Shop made her cake and with the geode design, it was a cheeky nod to the fact that she’s a palaeontologist. It’s really pretty and something we haven’t seen before, in person at least. Sophie’s flower bouquet was amazing too, and it was all artificial flowers so it means that she’ll have her flowers forever. She doesn’t need to worry about preserving them or drying them, just dusting them occasionally maybe!

We stayed at this wedding until the speeches, which at Sneaton Castle means staying through the food. Sneaton’s food is always really good and this wedding was no exception. If we’re staying past your meal for any reason, we do ask you to feed us too. We don’t have to have the same thing you’re having but most venues will give us something if you ask them to. We want to be on top of our game and that’s way easier if we’re not hungry! We managed to capture a really lovely moment when Sophie’s dad was making some last minute changes to his speech in the sunlight just outside the reception room. Rebecca actually lent him the pen he was using! Once the speeches were done, and the tears had been shed and dried up, we said our goodbyes and packed up our bags.
