Sneaton Castle Wedding Photography, North Yorkshire - Tom and Sian

A beautiful family wedding at Sneaton Castle in Whitby, North Yorkshire. We adore Sneaton Castle and it’s always an amazing place for wedding photography and it is completely unique. Not just in North Yorkshire, but probably one of the most individual venues we’ve ever seen.

Tom and Sian had their wedding booked with us for a long time but ended up having to postpone due to the dreaded Covid. We’d been looking forward to shooting them and it was amazing to finally get the chance to.

SNEATON CASTLE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Sneaton Castle is a former nunnery, bizarrely. The nuns decided they wanted a new building and that was built next to the old castle building. Once they had vacated it was open for development and so the current owners decided to turn it into a wedding venue. That means that it has the unique chapel building that actually had to be de-consecrated by the arch-bishop or someone in order to… exorcise the jesus or something… Basically though, that means that it can be used for civil ceremonies!. So now if you choose to have your wedding at Sneaton Castle, you get married in the chapel under the amazing painted ceiling.

Sneaton Castle has a load of amazing places for wedding photography. It’s a lot of fun wandering around and finding new things we haven’t seen before. We were able to check out some more of the grounds with Tom and Sian which was great, ducking under trees and finding shady spots to even out the bright sunshine.

Tom & Sian love to travel and one of the ways they incorporated that into their wedding details was in their table plan. They had a map of the world and each of the tables was named after a location that they had visited and was shown on the map with a red line of string.

The weather was amazing and the guests were making the most of the lawn games in the garden. There were cornhole boards that proved to be very popular. We had a great time shooting photographs of the guests playing the lawn games. If you’ve seen our blog post about Annie and Rob’s wedding down in Anyho, you’ll know we have a bit of a love-hate relationship with giant jenga games. We had another chance at this wedding to capture a shot of the tower falling and once again, we pretty much failed!

Thankfully they’re a lot of fun for guests, especially after one or two celebratory proseccos so we’re certain this won’t be our last chance. We’d definitely recommend getting some safe lawn games for summer weddings.

We hung around for the speeches and then said our goodbyes. We loved seeing Tom & Sian again and their wedding was a beautiful, family occasion that won’t be easy to forget.
