Our posing tips to banish awkward photos forever

We'll be the first to admit that getting your photo taken can be pretty scary ~ ok, very scary!

Where do you put your hands? Are you smiling like Chandler? Do you look okay? Why would anyone want to do this? What ever ARE hands!?
We know for a fact that these questions and so many more run through your mind, because they have run through OUR mind when we’re getting our own photos done. We know because we felt exactly the same.

After doing so many shoots with amazing but nervous couples, we’ve arrived at a simple, Magick Method to banish the nerves and make sure you’re chilled out and we’re capturing the best of you. The method is how we run our Wild Wander photo shoots and you can find out a bit more about how we guide you through it one another blog post. We wanted to share these simple extra tips here to make getting your photos taken a much more enjoyable experience.

We can’t promise to make you LOVE having your photos taken ~ we still don’t really like getting ours done after all. But what we absolutely can promise is that you will go into it feeling more prepared and you’ll come out of it ready to love the results!

Here are our super posing tips to make sure your photos come out perfect and show your absolute best!

🌙 Don't look at the camera ~ If we want you to look at us, we'll ask! Otherwise, keeping looking at each other or at the surrounding scenery, we dragged you out into the middle of nowhere for a reason and it’s usually the views. Those are always going to be your favourite photos, when you're caught staring lovingly at your partner in crime. They add a little mystery to the photos and make fab profile pictures. Plus if you’re looking at the person who makes you feel the safest, you’re bound to feel a bit safer!

🌙 Keep touching each other ~ This is another super simple tip but one that is hopefully going to be a double whammy of pretty and comforting. You'll feel so much more grounded if you're keeping in contact with your chosen partner and using each other as a safe anchor. Knowing that your favourite person in the world is doing the uncomfortable thing with you should hopefully ease some of the weirdness.

🌙 Bring some tunes ~ We almost always bring our little Bluetooth speaker (and if we do, it’s almost always charged up 😅). Let’s stick a bouncy, uplifting playlist on and dance through the nerves! We highly recommend making your own playlist too ~ pick songs that set the mood for the kind of photos you want. Whether that's fun and energetic, or something a little slower and more romantic. Music has an amazing ability to make us forget we feel uncomfortable and gives us the vibe you need to bop on through.

🌙 Don't be afraid to move ~ You’ll find that when it comes to posing, we tend to keep things simple. We don’t want to bombard you with a load of nonsense about where to put your eyelashes or how to bend your knees. We’ll never abandon you completely to flounder in confusion and awkwardness, but if you're are starting to feel a bit stuck for something to do, get moving. Have a twirl, jump around, skip and run like you're in some kind of film. If the vibe you’re going for is more romantic and whimsical, run your hands over each other, kiss their face, snuggle up a bit and nuzzle in. Do whatever comes naturally, and know that no matter what it will look amazing if it's authentic.

🌙 Just go with it ~ Sometimes we'll ask you to do something that feels weird or maybe a touch uncomfortable. Maybe there's a part of you that's like 'oh my god this is so cringey'. But trust us, we never ask you to do anything that doesn't look awesome, and you'll have so much more fun if you just relax and try your best to lean into it. Anything that doesn’t look amazing is because we mucked up and you’ll never see any of the photos that don’t work out anyway.

Hopefully they've done a little bit to set your mind at ease about the whole process and what you could expect to be asked to do. We promise we are not here to make you look silly in the photos.

These tips will help to up your selfie game, too. Try it out next time, get moving, keep contact with each other, don’t stare right down the barrel of the camera lens ~ rather than having a boring, static selfie you’ll get something worth sharing!
