Our Five Favourite Engagement Shoot Spots

It’s no secret that we love our local area. Living on the edge of North Yorkshire and the North York Moors gives us access to countless beautiful, remote spots to explore, and stunning back drops for engagement photos. We’ve pulled together a list of our five absolute favourite places to take couples out for their engagement shoots.

We want you to feel relaxed and completely at ease when you have engagement photos taken and we know we never feel better than when we're out in nature. We love nothing more than the open sky above us and a bit of muddy ground beneath our feet. It makes us feel free and gives us the permission to be ourselves.

It's this feeling that we want to capture in you guys during our engagement sessions. We want you to be authentically and completely yourself. The location you choose can help!

Check out our five favourite engagement shoot locations below!

1. Danby Moors

Honestly, all of the North York Moors National Park are amazing. They're green in spring, purple in late summer, and turn to a beautiful rust in winter, but the moorland around Danby is particularly spectacular for photos. There's lots of long stretches of road to park up at, and plenty of side roads for getting lost on. There's very little phone signal, so not so easy to get distracted, and it's usually pretty quiet. The views are stunning as it's so high up, and the landscape changes even in such a small area. This spot is perfect if you don't mind a little wind in your hair and mud on your boots.

2. Wheeldale Roman Road

While it's called a Roman road, no-one actually knows when the road dates from, it's a mystery! It's an English Heritage owned site that is completely open to the public. The whole length of the road is pretty, but there's a particular picnic spot we love at the bottom of the moor. There's a gorgeous beck with stepping stones across, the ancient road, and zero phone signal! You just have to be careful of the midgies and nesting lapwings. This is good spot for people who want to paddle in the beck and take in some local history.

3. Saltburn Beach

The North Yorkshire coast is stunning. Our beaches are clean and run on for miles and miles. Depending on where you go you might see dolphins or seals, and our surf scene is alive and kicking! While all of our local beaches are beautiful, we particularly like Saltburn. There's a lovely long pier to explore, amusements to play in, and rainbow coloured beach huts that add a cute pop of colour to your photos. Plus there's high risk of ice cream or fish and chips being involved.

4. Hob Hole

Back in our college days this was a favourite spot of ours. Some of our core memories involve our mate's ancient VW Beetle, sunset BBQs, and paddling in the beck. It's a brilliant spot, with zero phone signal making it perfect for picnics and escaping the real world for a while. It's also a gorgeous spot for photos, it's in the bottom of the moor so it's out of the wind and on an evening the light passes down the valley, bathing the dell in gorgeous golden light. This would be a perfect spot for an adventurous session, taking turns on the rope swing or hopping in the beck.

5. Errington Woods

This is a big stretch of woodland just up the road from us, and unlike our other favourite spots it's not terribly remote. If you're wanting somewhere easy to get to, but that has a remote feel then this might be the perfect spot! There's free parking, and easy to navigate paths. It can get fairly busy with dog walkers, but there's still solitude to be found. It's a great option if you're after woodland photos!
